Trichy: District collector Pratik Dayal flagged off a mobile food analysis laboratory vehicle at the collectorate on Tuesday. The vehicle, named 'Food Safety on Wheels' (FSW), has been launched by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). It will travel across the district conducting on-the-spot food testing and creating awareness about safe food practices.
Capabilities of the Mobile Lab
The mobile laboratory is equipped to detect food adulteration, identify unauthorised colouring agents, and carry out basic microbiological examinations to assess food quality and safety. This initiative is intended to bridge gaps in food testing infrastructure and extend services directly to the public.
Deployment and Awareness Campaigns
The mobile laboratory will be deployed at markets, festivals, public gatherings, and other high-footfall locations to facilitate rapid testing and awareness campaigns. It will also visit schools and colleges, particularly in rural areas, to educate students on food safety and hygiene. The FSW aims to empower consumers and ensure food quality across the district.
