Woman Fatally Attacked by Wild Animal in Nainital Forest
A tragic incident occurred in the Jeolikote area of Nainital district, where a 50-year-old woman lost her life after being mauled by a wild animal. The victim, identified as Hema Pandey, a resident of Gram Sabha Jeoli, was in the forest to collect grass when the attack took place on Wednesday.
Eyewitness Accounts and Investigation Details
According to eyewitnesses, Hema Pandey was dragged approximately 1 kilometer into the dense jungle by the animal. Range officer Nitin Pant stated that the specific animal responsible has not yet been identified. He emphasized, "The nature of the injuries and the condition of the body, however, suggest that a large animal was involved."
Villagers later discovered Hema's body and promptly informed social worker Hemang Goniya. Goniya highlighted that this is not an isolated case, noting, "Five to six similar incidents have been reported in the area earlier."
Authoritative Response and Safety Measures
In response to the attack, DFO Akash Gangwar announced that the matter is under investigation. He confirmed that patrolling in the area has been intensified to prevent further incidents. Gangwar advised local residents to remain vigilant and exercise caution when venturing into forested regions.
