CM Yogi Adityanath Encourages Nursing Students to Pursue Language Diplomas for Enhanced Career Prospects
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh emphasized on Sunday that Indian nursing professionals are in high demand globally, urging aspiring nurses to not only complete their courses but also pursue diplomas in languages to significantly improve their future opportunities. Speaking at a function in Lucknow where appointment letters were distributed to 1,228 nursing officers selected through a fair and transparent process, the CM highlighted the critical role of linguistic skills in expanding career horizons.
Global Recognition and Regional Language Emphasis
Drawing from his recent visits to Japan and Germany, CM Yogi stated that Indian nurses are highly respected in these countries, underscoring the international appeal of their expertise. He advised nursing students to learn additional languages such as Marathi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, and Bengali alongside their core curriculum. This multilingual approach, he explained, will open up better job opportunities both within India and overseas, facilitating smoother communication and integration in diverse healthcare settings.
The distribution of appointment letters during the auspicious festival of Navratri, particularly on Chaturthi, was described by the CM as a positive symbol of women empowerment and increasing participation of daughters in society. This event marks a significant step in bolstering the healthcare workforce in Uttar Pradesh.
Transforming Healthcare Infrastructure in Eastern Uttar Pradesh
CM Yogi recounted the historical challenges faced by Eastern Uttar Pradesh, which was once notorious for its poor healthcare system. He noted that thousands of lives were lost due to neglected health crises, with diseases like encephalitis and dengue claiming numerous victims annually. The region had become a hub for infectious diseases, highlighting urgent needs for reform.
To address these issues, the state government implemented major reforms to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. Key initiatives included:
- Reopening ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) and GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) training institutes that had been closed for years.
- Reviving approximately 35 ANM centers.
- Initiating construction of 31 new nursing colleges to expand educational capacity.
The CM emphasized that nursing and paramedical institutions play an equally important role as medical colleges in the healthcare ecosystem. He stated, "If doctors lead the healthcare system, nursing staff serve as its backbone. With this vision, equal priority is being given to nursing and paramedical education."
Significant Improvements in Health Outcomes
As a result of these reforms, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed notable progress in health indicators. Maternal and infant mortality rates have significantly declined, with the state now approaching the national average after previously lagging behind. This improvement reflects the enhanced quality and accessibility of healthcare services across the region.
Advancements in Digital Healthcare Services
The CM also highlighted the state's strides in digitizing healthcare services, which have improved efficiency and reach. Key achievements include:
- Coverage of around 9.25 crore people under Universal Health Coverage, ensuring broader access to medical care.
- Issuance of more than 14.28 crore digital health IDs (ABHA IDs), enabling integrated and streamlined healthcare services.
- Introduction of telemedicine and tele-consultation services at 976 Community Health Centers (CHCs) to improve access in rural and remote areas.
Furthermore, through Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, efforts have been made to bring all medical colleges onto a common academic platform, fostering standardization and collaboration. King George's Medical University's achievement of securing the 8th position nationwide in the medical university category in the 2025 NIRF rankings was cited as evidence of the state's commitment to excellence in medical education.
CM Yogi Adityanath's address underscores a comprehensive approach to healthcare development in Uttar Pradesh, combining educational reforms, linguistic training, and digital innovation to build a robust and globally competitive nursing workforce.
