Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Hails Health Yatra as Critical Outreach Program
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday praised the Guru Gorakhnath Health Service Yatra, describing it as a vital initiative in delivering healthcare services to the last mile. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony for the yatra's volunteers in Lucknow, the CM emphasized that it is more than just a medical outreach programme.
Expanding Healthcare Access in Challenging Terrain
Yogi Adityanath noted that the yatra has emerged as an effective platform for connecting remote and underserved regions with mainstream healthcare services. He commended the National Medicos Organisation (NMO) for expanding the initiative since 2019 into a large-scale public movement.
The yatra is being conducted across seven districts along the India-Nepal border: Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Pilibhit. These areas cover nearly 550 kilometers of challenging terrain and include tribal and rural pockets that have historically faced limited access to healthcare facilities.
Significant Growth in Patient Reach
The campaign, which initially reached around 27,000 patients in six districts in 2019, has now expanded to benefit approximately 2.6 lakh people. This remarkable growth reflects the unwavering commitment and service spirit of the volunteers involved in the initiative.
Focus on Preventive Healthcare and Awareness
Emphasizing the importance of awareness, Yogi Adityanath stated that preventive healthcare is more important than treatment. He appreciated the yatra's efforts in spreading awareness about common health issues such as skin diseases, water-borne infections, anaemia, and tuberculosis.
The Chief Minister also advised that awareness campaigns on reducing maternal and infant mortality should be integrated into the initiative. He stressed that healthy mothers and children are essential for building a healthy society.
Spirit of Service and Community Engagement
Highlighting the importance of service, Yogi Adityanath said the spirit of serving others makes human beings the finest creation of God. He praised the volunteers for embodying this value and inspiring others through their dedicated work.
He urged doctors to extend their services beyond hospitals and dedicate at least one day each month to serving underprivileged communities in remote areas.
Government Efforts for Marginalized Communities
Referring to efforts since 2017, the Chief Minister said the state government has taken significant steps to uplift marginalized communities, including those in forest and tribal areas. These initiatives include providing housing, electricity, water, education, healthcare, and welfare benefits such as pensions and Ayushman Bharat health insurance coverage.
Recognition for Contributors
At the event, Yogi Adityanath honored doctors, volunteers, and workers associated with the yatra for their valuable contributions to public health. He expressed confidence that the initiative would continue to grow into an even larger movement, ensuring equitable healthcare access for all sections of society across Uttar Pradesh.
The Guru Gorakhnath Health Service Yatra represents a model of community-driven healthcare delivery that bridges the gap between urban medical facilities and remote populations. Through its combination of direct medical services, health education, and volunteer engagement, the program addresses both immediate healthcare needs and long-term public health challenges in some of the state's most difficult-to-reach regions.
