Illegal Animal Confinement and Suspected Breeding Uncovered in Secunderabad Cemetery
An alleged case of illegal animal confinement and suspected breeding has surfaced inside a cemetery premises in Secunderabad after local residents alerted animal welfare groups about suspicious activities at the site. Volunteers from AASRA and SWAN NGOs reported receiving calls from residents of Trimulgherry who noticed several animals being kept inside the cemetery premises under questionable conditions.
Following the complaint, teams from both organizations visited the location for verification. During the inspection, rescuers found several breed dogs confined in cages, including two German Shepherds and two Great Danes. They also discovered Indie dogs, two rams (male sheep), pigeons, hens, and Aseel racing hens inside the premises.
“We are not sure but the premises may also have been used for the sale or confinement of animals,” said Gowri Vandana from AASRA Foundation. Initially, it was claimed that the animals belonged to the cemetery management. However, according to NGO representatives, further inquiry revealed that the animals allegedly belonged to a cemetery worker.
“The Secunderabad veterinary inspector orally assured us that the animals would be removed from the premises and female dogs would be sterilized,” said Harsh Kishore from SWAN NGO.
This incident has raised concerns about animal welfare and the misuse of public spaces. The NGOs are now closely monitoring the situation to ensure that the authorities follow through on their promises. Further investigations may be conducted to determine if any illegal sale or breeding operations were taking place.
