Rebel Wilson's 'Year of Health' Journey and Body Positivity

Rebel Wilson, the Australian actress best known for her role as Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect, has been in the wellness spotlight since declaring 2020 as her “year of health.” She has frequently spoken about her commitment to fitness, and fans have followed her journey closely.

Thanks for all the love

In August 2020, the Pitch Perfect star updated her fans by sharing two stunning photos of herself in a navy blue wrap dress, thanking her followers for their continuous support, according to People magazine. The pictures serve as proof of her body transformation, showing significant progress. The post was captioned: “Thanks for all the love so far on my ‘Year of Health’ journey. When I was searching for the candies last night after dinner, I thought to myself, ‘hmmm, better not,’ and had a bottle of water instead.” She embarked on this journey with the help of her trainer, Jono Castono. Two months later, Wilson shared that she was nearing her goal weight of 165 pounds. In November, she told ET that she had “lost eight pounds in four days” from the moving and dancing involved in filming her number for the movie Cats.

It’s just about loving yourself

“It’s not about being a certain size or body weight or anything; it’s just about loving yourself and loving the journey that you’re on. And to me, the women I think are most beautiful are those who step into their own power,” the Isn’t It Romantic actor told Australia’s Daily Telegraph in a 2021 interview. Although she was satisfied and positive about her new wellness-focused journey, she expressed frustration over the attention on her “appearance.” “In 2019, I had, like, four movies coming out, two of which I produced and one, Jojo Rabbit, which got nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture,” she said. “Yet I get more press the following year when I do nothing except lose weight.”

There’s no magic fix

“There’s no magic fix. I’d been on diets and I’ve been really good at exercising pretty much my entire life,” Rebel told US Weekly in 2024. “For me, it was the emotional element that I’d never looked at. I’d kind of been, like, ‘Emotions, ugh, I don’t want to talk about things.’” In 2024, the actor had lost almost 60 pounds. During the release of her memoir, Rebel Rising, she revealed that she briefly tried Ozempic to lose weight.

Having a bikini body

Wilson’s journey has been beautiful, and she has always been true to herself. On March 31, 2026, the actress shared a candid message about her body image on her Instagram Stories. Along with a photo of her baring her stomach in a sports bra and shorts, she wrote, “I don’t think I’ll ever have a bikini body; that’s just not me,” People reported. In the following slide, Wilson mentioned that she has been practicing a changed lifestyle. “I’m trying to get in my daily steps, do a Pilates class once or twice a week, some strength training when I can, eat as healthy as I can,” she wrote. On May 5, the new mom shared an adorable picture of her second daughter, Rose Estelle, highlighting her new journey as a mother alongside her wellness journey.
