Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday directed the Health Department to expedite the installation of an advanced digital PET scan machine at Ambala Cancer Hospital to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment. He asked officials to finalise the tender terms within 15 days and submit them for approval. Transport Minister Anil Vij and Chief Principal Secretary Rajesh Khullar were present during the meeting.
Key Directives for PET Scan Installation
Saini said the hospital is a key cancer treatment centre and needs the latest digital PET scan technology for more accurate diagnosis, monitoring disease spread and assessing the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He also instructed officials to ensure affordable PET scan charges.
According to the Chief Minister, the digital PET scan machine will enable early detection of cancer and improve treatment outcomes. The technology is expected to benefit thousands of patients who currently travel to other cities for advanced imaging.
Impact on Cancer Care in Haryana
The Ambala Cancer Hospital serves as a major referral centre for cancer patients from across the state. With the new PET scan facility, patients will have access to state-of-the-art diagnostic services locally, reducing the need for travel and associated costs. Officials have been asked to keep the charges reasonable to ensure affordability for all sections of society.
The meeting also discussed the timeline for the project, with Saini emphasising the need for swift action to avoid delays. The Health Department will now work on finalising the tender documents within the stipulated 15-day period.
