Kanpur: Advocates under the banner of the Adhivakta Kalyan Sangharsh Samiti held a protest rally on Monday, demanding free health insurance or cashless medical treatment for themselves and their families.
Rally and Demands
Dressed in black coats with white bands, the advocates marched from the Kanpur Bar Association gate to the district magistrate's office, raising slogans in support of their demands. The protest highlighted the long-standing issue of inadequate healthcare benefits for the legal fraternity.
Address by Samiti Convener
Addressing the gathering at the DM's office gate, Samiti convener Ravindra Sharma stated that the government has not provided free medical insurance cover to advocates, resulting in poor healthcare access for them and their families. He emphasized that the legal community has been struggling for either cashless treatment or inclusion under the Ayushman scheme for a long time.
Sharma noted that a delegation of the samiti had met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath a few months ago regarding this issue, but no concrete steps have been taken so far. He welcomed the government's decision to provide cashless medical treatment to around 9 lakh teachers and their families, and demanded similar benefits for advocates, either through cashless treatment or by including them in the Ayushman scheme.
Memorandum Submitted
Later, a memorandum was handed over to SDM Jwala Prasad, who assured that it would be forwarded to the Chief Minister's office for appropriate action.
