Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a series of advisories urging citizens to stay vigilant against heat exhaustion and to extend compassion to birds and animals during the ongoing extreme heat conditions. In a statement shared on social media, Modi highlighted the importance of recognizing early signs of heat-related illnesses.
Recognizing Heat Exhaustion
Modi advised the public to watch for symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or extreme fatigue. If someone around you appears unusually unwell, weak, or develops a headache, it is best to immediately help them move to a cool and shaded place. Ensuring they consume water or oral rehydration solution (ORS) can be crucial in aiding their recovery. Special attention should be paid to children, who are particularly vulnerable to heat stress.
Compassion for Animals
In the same message, the Prime Minister urged citizens not to forget the birds and animals that suffer in the scorching heat. He suggested placing a small bowl of water outside homes, balconies, terraces, shops, or offices. Such a simple act can become a lifeline for a thirsty bird or animal. Modi emphasized that compassion should guide us during these difficult days, encouraging everyone to do their part in alleviating suffering.
The advisory comes as many parts of the country experience record-breaking temperatures, prompting health warnings and calls for community support. By staying alert and helping both people and animals, citizens can collectively navigate the heatwave more safely.
