Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins has admitted that young Mumbai Indians batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become a 'headache' for his team ahead of the IPL 2026 Eliminator. The high-stakes clash is scheduled for May 27, 2026, and Cummins confirmed that SRH have put in extra preparation to counter the threat posed by the 19-year-old opener.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Form a Concern for SRH
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been in sensational form this season, amassing over 500 runs at a strike rate of 180. His aggressive batting at the top of the order has been a key factor in Mumbai Indians' successful campaign. In the last league match between the two sides, Sooryavanshi smashed a blistering 89 off 48 balls, single-handedly taking the game away from SRH.
Speaking at a press conference on the eve of the Eliminator, Cummins said, "Vaibhav is a special talent. He has given us a lot of headaches in the past few weeks. We have been working on specific plans to counter him. It's not just about bowling well; we need to be smart with our field placements and bowling changes."
Extra Preparations by SRH
Cummins revealed that the SRH think tank has held multiple brainstorming sessions to devise strategies against Sooryavanshi. The team has also simulated match scenarios in the nets, with net bowlers mimicking Sooryavanshi's batting style.
"We have analyzed his weaknesses and strengths thoroughly. Our bowlers have practiced specific lengths and lines that could trouble him. It's going to be a tough challenge, but we are prepared," Cummins added.
The SRH bowling attack, led by Cummins himself and featuring the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan, will look to execute their plans to perfection. The team management has also considered using spin early in the innings to test Sooryavanshi's footwork against slow bowlers.
