Tragic Chemical Incident Claims Young Worker's Life
A devastating chemical leak in Mumbai's Andheri MIDC area resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man and hospitalization of two others on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:55 PM at a two-storeyed structure in Bhangarwadi, sending shockwaves through the industrial neighborhood.
What Happened During the Fatal Cleaning Process
The deceased, identified as Ahmed Hussain, had been working inside a jewellery workshop where he handled waste material. According to police reports, Hussain was cleaning waste by mixing it in water with sodium sulphate when the tragedy unfolded.
Investigators revealed that Hussain accidentally added an excess amount of sodium sulphate, triggering the release of toxic fumes. The young worker collapsed immediately after inhaling the dangerous gas, his screams alerting others to the emergency.
Chain Reaction of Rescue Attempts Turns Dangerous
Hearing Hussain's distress calls, his 17-year-old sister Saba Shaikh and 28-year-old neighbor Naushad Ansari rushed to his aid. In their attempt to rescue Hussain, both also inhaled the toxic fumes and fell unconscious alongside him.
The situation was discovered by Hussain's father, who had been outside the room at the time of the incident. Finding all three individuals lying unconscious, he immediately alerted the police and emergency services.
All three victims were transported to Holy Spirit Hospital with police assistance. Tragically, Hussain was declared dead upon arrival, while Saba and Ansari remain admitted at the medical facility and are currently in recovery.
Senior Inspector Ravindra Wani of MIDC police station confirmed that authorities have registered the incident and an official inquiry is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances and responsibility for the fatal accident.
