In an extraordinary medical achievement, a team of doctors in Jodhpur successfully saved the lives of a pregnant woman and her unborn child by performing a complex surgery to remove a massive uterine growth. The patient, 31-year-old Payal from Ajmer, was four months pregnant when she arrived at the Zanana Wing of Mathuradas Mathur (MDM) Hospital in June 2025. She was suffering from severe abdominal pain and had an unusually large swelling. Medical scans revealed the shocking cause: a gigantic uterine fibroid measuring approximately 22 × 18 × 16 cm. The benign tumour had grown so large it reached her navel and was critically obstructing the normal development of the foetus.
Doctors emphasized the extreme rarity of such a case. Fibroids of this enormous size during pregnancy are exceptionally uncommon, occurring in roughly only 1 in 800,000 to 1 million pregnant women.
