In a remarkable medical achievement, six-month-old Dhriya, who was born with a life-threatening liver condition, has successfully recovered after undergoing a complex liver transplant surgery. The procedure gained special significance as she received the matching liver from the youngest donor in the state, 10-month-old Alin Sherin Abraham.

Alin Sherin Abraham, hailing from Mallappally in Pathanamthitta district, was declared brain-dead following a tragic road accident. Despite the heartbreaking circumstances, this led to a life-saving opportunity for another infant in critical need.
Dhriya's Medical Journey and Diagnosis
Dhriya was diagnosed with biliary atresia—a serious condition where the ducts carrying bile from the liver fail to develop normally. She had been battling severe health complications since birth. Earlier, she underwent a Kasai surgery at another hospital, a procedure that removes blocked bile ducts and creates a new pathway for bile drainage using a portion of the small intestine.
However, the child later developed serious complications including:

Following the deterioration in her condition, Dhriya was referred to KIMS Hospital, where medical experts advised that an urgent liver transplant was the only option to save her life. The surgery was performed on February 14 and lasted approximately 12 hours.
