Medinirai Medical College Pioneers Phaco Cataract Surgeries in Daltonganj
In a significant advancement for regional healthcare, the Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) in Daltonganj has officially launched phacoemulsification eye surgeries, commonly known as phaco surgeries, earlier this week. This initiative aims to provide cutting-edge treatment for patients suffering from cataracts, a leading cause of blindness in India.
Successful Implementation and Patient Outcomes
According to hospital management, the rollout marks a milestone in local medical services. Dr Rakesh Kumar, the head of MMCH's eye department, confirmed the successful execution of these procedures. "We performed phaco cataract surgeries on four female patients this Wednesday, and all are recovering well," he stated. This is the first time MMCH has conducted such advanced cataract surgeries in Daltonganj, highlighting the institution's commitment to enhancing ophthalmic care.
State Health Department's Mandate and Support
The introduction of these surgeries aligns with directives from the state department of health, medical education, and family welfare. Authorities have instructed Palamu health officials to achieve a target of at least 300 cataract surgeries during the current financial year. To support this goal, government facilities are providing intraocular lenses free of cost to eligible patients under the National Programme for Blindness Control and Visual Impairment scheme.
This program is part of broader efforts to combat visual impairment across the region, ensuring that advanced treatments like phaco surgeries are accessible to those in need. The initiative not only addresses immediate health concerns but also contributes to long-term public health outcomes by reducing blindness rates.
