A 22-year-old man in Kanpur allegedly died by suicide after his pet fish perished during a power outage, according to police. The incident occurred in the Cantonment area, where the young man was found hanging in his room on Saturday morning.

Police reported that the family did not own an inverter. On Friday morning, a prolonged electricity cut caused the aquarium's air pump to stop functioning, resulting in the death of the fish. The man became severely distressed upon discovering their deaths and locked himself inside a room.

Cantt police station in-charge Arvind Rai stated that the youth's father informed authorities that the deceased was deeply attached to the fish he kept at home and cared for them devotedly. The fish had been a source of comfort and joy for him.
