Vijayawada: The 108 emergency ambulance services in Andhra Pradesh provided life-saving assistance to a total of 7.79 lakh people over the past year, according to data released by Bhavya Health Care, which operates the service in partnership with the state government. Between June 2025 and May 2026, the upgraded system integrated GPS-based vehicle tracking, real-time traffic navigation, digitised patient records, and advanced communication technologies to ensure rapid medical intervention during the critical 'Golden Hour'.
Road Accidents and Maternal Care Top the List
Road accidents accounted for the highest number of emergencies, with 1.13 lakh victims receiving on-site trauma care and emergency transportation. The service also played a crucial role in maternal healthcare by safely transporting 1.05 lakh pregnant women to healthcare facilities, contributing to efforts aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality.
Comprehensive Emergency Response
The emergency response network handled 5.25 lakh direct emergency dispatches and facilitated 2.53 lakh Inter-Facility Transfers (IFT), ensuring seamless movement of critically ill patients from primary healthcare centres to advanced medical institutions. Among other major emergencies attended by the 108 teams were:
- 97,118 respiratory distress cases
- 49,342 non-vehicular injury cases
- 45,951 cardiac emergencies
- 40,553 incidents involving unconscious patients
- 34,532 abdominal pain cases
- 32,858 poisoning incidents
- 29,485 seizure episodes
- 20,278 stroke cases
- 14,007 neonatal emergencies
Specialised Cardiac Care
The service's specialised cardiac care response was highlighted as a key achievement. Equipped with Advanced Life Support (ALS) systems, Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and real-time communication facilities, ambulances enabled Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to transmit patient data directly to hospital emergency departments while en route, improving survival chances for heart attack patients and other critically ill individuals.
Future Expansion Plans
Bhavya Health Care officials said the organisation is focused on expanding the emergency response network, deploying additional advanced life support ambulances, and enhancing the skills of EMTs through continuous training programmes. 'Our mission goes beyond operating ambulances. We are building a dependable emergency care ecosystem that reaches every citizen, regardless of location. By leveraging technology and improving response times, we aim to ensure that no person in Andhra Pradesh is deprived of timely emergency medical care,' a spokesperson for Bhavya Health Care said.
