Tragedy Strikes Bengaluru Apartment Complex
An eight-year-old boy lost his life on Thursday in a tragic incident linked to a severe outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting at Prestige Falcon City, an upscale apartment complex located off Kanakapura Road in south Bengaluru. The suspected cause of the outbreak is contamination of the water supply to the residential complex.
Investigation Reveals Prolonged Health Crisis
Preliminary investigations by authorities have uncovered that residents had been reporting illnesses and poor health for the past three weeks, with many pointing directly to the water being supplied to their homes. The situation culminated in the death of the young boy, who had been battling nephrotic syndrome for the last two years and was undergoing treatment involving antibiotics and steroids.
According to Bengaluru South City corporation officials monitoring the crisis, the boy's pre-existing health condition was severely worsened by the suspected water contamination, leading to his death. In response, officials have taken several measures:
- Established a health desk within the apartment complex.
- Held discussions with the apartment association members.
- Deployed doctors on-site to handle any further medical emergencies.
- Collected water samples and sent them for detailed laboratory testing.
Residents Voice Frustration Over Delayed Action
Meanwhile, numerous residents have expressed deep frustration and anger over the perceived apathy they faced. One resident shared a harrowing account, stating, "I've been sick for the past 45 days... I got sick 6-7 times and have been spending most of the time in hospitals; the same goes for my parents."
The resident emphasized that their complaints about the water issue over the last two months were largely ignored. They also highlighted the scale of the problem, revealing that at least around 800 residents have fallen sick in the recent outbreak, underscoring a significant public health failure in the area.
