Bhagalpur District Administration Launches Intensive 11-Day Mop-Up Campaign Against Lymphatic Filariasis
The district administration of Bhagalpur in Bihar has officially commenced a crucial 11-day mop-up round aimed at the complete elimination of lymphatic filariasis. This targeted health initiative, which began on Thursday, is scheduled to run continuously until March 13, focusing on achieving full medication coverage across the entire district.
Comprehensive Coverage Across All Administrative Blocks
All 16 blocks under the Bhagalpur, Kahalgaon, and Naugachia sub-divisions within Bhagalpur district will be thoroughly covered during this intensive campaign. The mop-up round represents a strategic follow-up to the earlier Mass Drug Administration (MDA) phase that was conducted between February 10 and February 28.
Building on Previous Mass Drug Administration Success
District Vector-Borne Disease Control Officer (DVBDCO) Dr. Dinanath provided significant insights into the campaign's progress. "Under the mass drug administration, we successfully achieved nearly 90% of our target for administering filariasis medication," Dr. Dinanath stated. "The remaining 10% coverage will be accomplished through this dedicated mop-up round."
The DVBDCO made a special appeal to residents who have not yet received the filariasis medication, urging them to proactively contact health workers during this period to obtain the necessary treatment.
Statistical Achievements and Future Objectives
Vector Disease Control Officer (VDCO) Aarti Kumari shared detailed statistics regarding the campaign's reach. "During the MDA phase held between February 10 and 28, we administered filariasis medication to over 29 lakh people out of our targeted population of over 32 lakh across the district," Kumari explained.
She further emphasized the campaign's ultimate goal: "Our primary objective is to achieve 100% target coverage during this mop-up round to ensure complete medication coverage for all eligible individuals."
Addressing Public Concerns and Apprehensions
Kumari also highlighted ongoing efforts to address community concerns about the medication. "A parallel awareness campaign is actively underway to remove any apprehensions from people's minds regarding the filariasis medicines," she added, underscoring the administration's commitment to both medical intervention and public education.
The lymphatic filariasis elimination initiative represents a significant public health undertaking in Bhagalpur district, combining mass medication distribution with targeted follow-up efforts to ensure no individual is left untreated. Health authorities remain optimistic that this 11-day mop-up campaign will bridge the remaining coverage gap and move the district closer to complete elimination of this debilitating disease.
