CDSCO Flags 141 Substandard Drugs, 47 from Himachal

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has issued an alert for March, declaring a total of 141 drugs as substandard quality. Among these, 47 drugs, representing 33.3% of the total, were manufactured in Himachal Pradesh.

Drugs and Their Uses

The flagged drugs are used for treating various conditions, including high blood pressure, chest pain, bacterial infections of the lungs, nausea, ulcers, chronic pain caused by damaged nerves, allergies, swelling, and inflammation. The list also includes syrups for dry and wet coughs.

Manufacturing Locations

These substandard drugs were produced in several industrial areas of Himachal Pradesh: Baddi, Barotiwala, and Nalagarh in Solan district; Paonta Sahib and Kala Amb in Sirmaur; and Mehatpur and Haroli in Una district.

Regulatory Action

According to officials from the state drugs control administration, notices will be issued to all manufacturers whose drug samples failed the quality tests.

This alert follows a similar one in January, where 71 drug samples from Himachal Pradesh were found to be of 'not standard quality'.

Himachal Pradesh is one of the largest drug producers in India, hosting 64 pharmaceutical manufacturers, 177 cosmetics units, and 29 medical device companies. The state contributes approximately 35% of the nation's annual drug production.
