A sudden flash fire, suspected to be caused by a cooking gas leak, left four individuals with burn injuries at a residential building in Surat on Tuesday morning. The incident has raised concerns about winter safety protocols.
Morning Routine Turns Tragic in Rented Room
The accident occurred around 8 am in a rented room located on the third floor of a building in Gurukrupa Society on Sachin-Gabheni Road. The four injured have been identified as Rinki Polai, Bhagyashree Polai, Salu Mohan, and Hariom Yadav.
All four victims were promptly rushed to the New Civil Hospital in Surat, where they are currently undergoing treatment for their injuries.
Accumulated Gas and a Fatal Spark
Preliminary investigations by authorities point towards a cooking gas leakage that likely happened overnight. Due to the winter chill, the windows and doors of the room were tightly shut, which is believed to have allowed the leaked gas to accumulate in the confined space.
The flash fire was allegedly triggered by a spark when the family began their day. This spark could have originated from an electrical switch or a kitchen appliance being turned on, igniting the gas-filled air.
Investigation and Aftermath
Officials from the local fire department have arrived at the scene. Their team is currently working on two key fronts:
- Assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the fire.
- Conducting a thorough verification to conclusively determine the exact cause of the incident.
This unfortunate event serves as a critical reminder of the importance of gas safety measures, especially during winter months when homes are sealed against the cold. Ensuring proper ventilation and immediate attention to any suspected leak can prevent such tragedies.
