Gumla Administration Launches Health Camps for Vulnerable Tribal Groups

The Gumla administration in Jharkhand organized a series of special health camps on Monday, targeting Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) across 11 habitations in four blocks. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to improve healthcare access for remote tribal communities.

Camp Locations and Services

The health camps were conducted at multiple locations: Jalim, Sakhuwatoli, and Khairipaat under the Bishunpur block; Kakarpaat, Dokapaat, Bhaghlatapaat, and Brahmpur-Joblapaat in the Chainpur block; Ghaghrapaat, Kodle, and Ghorapathal of the Ghaghra block; and Bandhkona under the Dumri block. Patients received medical screenings and were distributed medicines by doctors on-site.

Future Camps and Health Focus

Similar health camps are scheduled for Tuesday at Perhapaat under the Bishunpur block and Jilingsira hamlet in the Ghaghra block. According to Gumla Civil Surgeon Dr. Shambhu Nath Chowdhury, the initiative began approximately four months ago and emphasizes several key health areas:

  • Mother and child care programs
  • Immunization drives
  • Screening for non-communicable diseases
  • Sickle cell anemia testing
  • General health examinations

Dr. Chowdhury highlighted that mothers are being counseled to consume locally available nutritious foods, such as green vegetables, spinach, and drumstick leaves, to enhance their health and that of their children.

Administrative Oversight and Accountability

To ensure the effectiveness of these healthcare services, the administration has implemented a feedback mechanism. Residents are encouraged to report any failures in service delivery by designated healthcare providers directly to Deputy Commissioner Prerna Dixit via WhatsApp on her mobile number (9431116003). This measure aims to maintain accountability and improve the quality of care provided to the tribal communities.

The health camps represent a significant step in addressing the healthcare disparities faced by PVTGs in the Gumla district, with a focus on preventive care and community engagement.
