Kanpur: Mercury rose once again on Sunday, bringing back intense heat and discomfort for residents after a brief respite of one day. The combination of soaring temperatures and high humidity left citizens perspiring throughout the day.
Temperature Details
The city recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius, nearly 3 degrees higher than Saturday’s 34.2 degrees Celsius. However, the minimum temperature settled at 25.6 degrees Celsius, providing some relief during the night hours.
Weather Parameters
According to weather data, maximum relative humidity was recorded at 70 percent, while north-easterly winds swept across the city at a speed of 4.6 km per hour. Though heatwave conditions were not felt on Sunday, the high humidity level led to sultry weather conditions and excessive sweating, troubling residents.
IMD Forecast
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that weather conditions across all districts of the Kanpur division will remain mainly clear and hot over the next 24 hours. Maximum temperatures in Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Etawah, Farrukhabad, Kannauj and Auraiya are likely to range between 39 degrees Celsius and 44 degrees Celsius. Intense sunshine and severe heatwave conditions are expected to prevail during the daytime.
In Kanpur Nagar, the sky is expected to remain mainly clear with bright sunshine, though light clouds may appear during afternoon hours. The maximum temperature may touch around 43 degrees Celsius. Hot west-northwesterly winds blowing at speeds of 10 to 15 km per hour are likely to intensify heatwave-like conditions in the city.

Dr. S. Sunil Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, said that due to atmospheric humidity, temperatures in the Kanpur division are expected to rise gradually, resulting in continued sultry and humid conditions.
