Nashik has witnessed a significant reduction in dengue cases during the January to May 2026 period, with only 14 cases reported compared to 122 in the same period last year. This marks a sharp decline of nearly 88.5%.
NMC Intensifies Pre-Monsoon Preparedness
Despite the improvement in numbers, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has ramped up its pre-monsoon preparedness through a citywide anti-dengue and anti-malaria drive. Following directives from municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri, the NMC's medical and health department has deployed 62 dedicated dengue prevention teams. These teams are conducting door-to-door inspections, larval detection, fogging, and awareness campaigns across the city.
Focus on Hotspots and Water Stagnation Zones
Civic officials stated that special attention is being paid to identified hotspots, areas with previous dengue clusters, and locations prone to water stagnation. In April 2026 alone, around 1.94 lakh households were surveyed, with mosquito larvae detected in 951 homes. A total of 2.28 lakh water sources were inspected, of which 1,404 were found to have larval presence.
Multipronged Mosquito Control Measures
The NMC has stepped up fogging and spraying operations at 38,551 locations. Additionally, 1,115 water sources were emptied, larvicides applied at 289 sites, and guppy fish released at 674 locations to control mosquito breeding. Particular focus is on vacant plots, construction sites, basements, scrap yards, tyre shops, and overhead water tanks. The civic body has also warned of penal action for non-compliance with norms.
Appeal to Citizens and Authorities
Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri emphasized, "Preventive measures are being intensified ahead of the monsoon. Citizens should actively participate and strictly follow civic guidelines." The NMC health department has appealed to residents to clean and dry water storage containers at least once a week, cover all household water containers, and prevent mosquito breeding spots. Schools and offices are urged to maintain cleanliness. Residents are advised to wear covered clothing and visit nearby hospitals in case of fever.
