Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Thursday informed the Rajya Sabha that no case of Ebola virus disease has been reported in India so far. Responding to a query, Nadda said the government has taken all necessary precautions to prevent the entry and spread of the virus in the country.
Government Measures and Preparedness
The Health Minister highlighted that the government has issued guidelines for screening travelers from affected regions, especially at international airports and seaports. Thermal screening and health questionnaires are being used to identify symptomatic individuals. Additionally, isolation facilities have been designated in major hospitals across the country to handle any suspected cases.
Nadda further stated that the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have been actively monitoring the global situation and providing technical guidance to states. The government has also conducted training programs for healthcare workers on infection control and management of Ebola cases.
International Collaboration
India is in close coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international bodies to stay updated on the evolving situation. The ministry has issued travel advisories and is ensuring that all measures align with global standards.
The Minister assured that the country is well-prepared to respond to any public health emergency, with adequate stockpiles of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essential supplies.
In conclusion, Nadda reiterated that there is no cause for panic, as the government remains vigilant and proactive in safeguarding public health.
