Prayagraj Magh Mela Witnesses Extensive Medical Outreach for Devotees
The ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to public health, with over 2.11 lakh devotees receiving medical treatment and OPD services from specialist doctors so far. This massive healthcare initiative has been crucial in supporting the spiritual gathering, which has seen immense participation from across the country.
Comprehensive Healthcare Infrastructure at the Mela Ground
To cater to the health needs of the millions of visitors, the mela administration implemented a comprehensive and multi-layered medical system. More than 350 medical and paramedical staff have been stationed at temporary health units across the seven sectors of the Mela ground, providing 24 x 7 health services. This round-the-clock availability has ensured that devotees have access to medical care at all times.
Chief Medical Officer of Prayagraj, Dr. Arun Kumar Tiwari, provided detailed insights into the medical services rendered. He stated that until Magh Purnima, a total of 2,11,825 OPD services were delivered at the temporary hospitals and primary health units. This translates to an impressive average of 7,391 OPD services daily, highlighting the scale of medical assistance required and provided.
Advanced Medical Facilities and Services Offered
The healthcare setup at the Magh Mela was designed to handle a wide range of medical needs. In addition to OPD services, the facilities conducted 17,487 pathology tests for patients visiting the health units. Furthermore, 1,814 minor operations were performed during this period, showcasing the capability to handle surgical procedures on-site.
Dr. Tiwari emphasized that extensive arrangements were made by the health department to ensure the well-being of the devotees. The preparations were complete, covering everything from minor ailments to serious conditions. The infrastructure included 2 large temporary hospitals with 20 beds each, located at Parade Ground and on the Jhunsi side across the Ganga. Additionally, 12 more hospitals with 2 beds each were established in various sectors of the Magh Mela area.
Emergency Response and Positive Outcomes
The temporary hospitals offered a full spectrum of medical facilities, including OPD services, free medicine distribution, emergency minor surgeries, deliveries, and blood tests. By Magh Purnima, a total of 2,331 emergency cases were reported. Fortunately, no casualties occurred during this period, a testament to the effectiveness of the medical arrangements and the dedication of the healthcare staff.
This healthcare effort is particularly significant given the massive turnout at the Magh Mela. Over the past 32 days, from Paush Purnima on January 3 to Magh Purnima on February 1, more than 21 crore devotees took a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam. The seamless medical support has played a vital role in ensuring a safe and healthy experience for all participants, reinforcing the importance of such initiatives in large-scale religious events.
