The Government of Rajasthan has unveiled a transformative roadmap for public health, setting a series of ambitious long-term targets aimed at dramatically improving the well-being of its citizens. The cornerstone of this vision is a significant increase in the average life expectancy within the state.
Ambitious Targets for a Healthier Future
According to a new vision document released by the state's health department, Rajasthan plans to elevate the average life expectancy from its current level of 69.4 years to 77 years by the year 2030. Looking further ahead, the government has set an even more ambitious goal of achieving an average life expectancy of 84 years by the year 2047. This vision is not merely about longevity but encompasses achieving optimal physical, mental, and spiritual well-being for all residents, supported by a robust and integrated healthcare system that is accessible to everyone.
Key Focus Areas: Maternal and Child Health
The strategy to reach these life expectancy goals will primarily concentrate on two critical indicators: maternal mortality and infant mortality. The state intends to make a drastic reduction in the maternal mortality rate, aiming to bring it down from the current 113 deaths per lakh live births to just 15 by 2047. Similarly, on the infant mortality front, the target is to reduce the rate from 32 deaths per 1,000 live births to 10 within the same timeframe.
In a major relief for families, the health department is also planning concrete measures to reduce the financial burden of healthcare. The plan aims to slash out-of-pocket expenses for treatment at government hospitals and clinics from 37% to a mere 8%. Officials stated that these health initiatives will be supported by a parallel effort to create a transparent and innovative system for food and civil supplies. This complementary system is designed to ensure equal access to essential goods and strengthen the overall social welfare and economic resilience of the population.
Expanding Infrastructure and Embracing Technology
To realize this comprehensive vision, the department has outlined a multi-pronged approach to expand healthcare facilities across Rajasthan. The plan promotes universal healthcare access and targets 100% coverage of quality, affordable medical services, significantly through public-private partnerships. A notable economic and healthcare goal is the active promotion of medical tourism by leveraging the state's latent potential to attract international patients by 2047.
The modernization of healthcare will be driven by technology, with the integration of AI-enabled diagnostic tools and predictive analytics to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of treatments. Infrastructure expansion forms a critical pillar of the strategy, with goals that include:
- Establishing a medical college in every district of the state.
- Launching advanced skill development programs for healthcare professionals.
- Implementing strong prevention-based healthcare initiatives to curb diseases before they require extensive treatment.
These combined efforts represent a holistic attempt to overhaul Rajasthan's public health landscape, aiming not just for longer lives, but for healthier and more secure lives for all its residents over the next two decades.
