Rotary Club's Mega Cervical Cancer Vaccination Drive Launched in Dharwad
In a significant public health initiative, a large-scale cervical cancer vaccination campaign organized by the Rotary Club of Dharwad Central was officially inaugurated on Sunday at Ramapur in Dharwad. The event was graced by legislative council chairman Basavaraj Horatti, who presided over the ceremony and highlighted the critical importance of preventive healthcare measures in the community.
Horatti Praises Rotary's Sustained Community Contributions
Addressing the assembled gathering, Basavaraj Horatti extended his commendation to the Rotary Club for its unwavering and sustained contributions across multiple vital sectors. He specifically lauded the organization's dedicated efforts in the fields of health, maternal and child welfare, disease prevention and treatment, education, hygiene, water, and sanitation. Horatti emphasized that proactive healthcare initiatives, such as the cervical cancer vaccination drive, play a transformative and essential role in safeguarding and strengthening communities against preventable health crises.
Urgent Need to Combat Cervical Cancer Highlighted
Highlighting the pressing urgency of addressing cervical cancer, Horatti pointed to alarming studies indicating that one death due to cervical cancer occurs every eight minutes in the country. He stressed that ensuring timely vaccination for young girls is a critical and indispensable step toward securing their future health and protecting families from the devastating impact of a preventable tragedy. By focusing on vaccination, the initiative aims to build a healthier and more resilient society.
Rotary's Proactive Mission Ahead of Government Directives
Horatti further commended the Rotary Club for launching this ambitious project nearly six months ago, well before recent government directives that mandated vaccination for 14-year-old girls under central guidelines. While the government has now initiated a structured and nationwide vaccination drive, the Rotary Club of Dharwad Central had already embarked on its own comprehensive mission. The club's goal is to vaccinate 2,500 girls from rural areas across 58 villages in Dharwad district, demonstrating foresight and commitment to public health.
Impressive Progress and Safe Implementation Reported
Providing a detailed update on the campaign's progress, organizers stated that 1,600 vaccinations have been successfully administered so far, without a single reported complication or adverse event. This achievement underscores the meticulous planning, careful coordination, and safe implementation of the vaccination drive. The organizers attributed this success to thorough preparation and community engagement, ensuring the campaign's effectiveness and safety.
Special Vaccination Camp Conducted During Inauguration
As part of the inaugural program, a special vaccination camp was conducted at Ramapur, where 110 girls received the cervical cancer vaccine. This camp served as a practical demonstration of the campaign's operational efficiency and its direct impact on the local community. The event not only marked the official launch but also reinforced the collaborative efforts between the Rotary Club and local stakeholders in promoting health and wellness.
The Rotary Club of Dharwad Central's initiative stands as a model of community-driven health intervention, aligning with broader national goals to eradicate cervical cancer through preventive measures. With continued support and participation, such campaigns are poised to make a lasting difference in the lives of thousands of young girls and their families across the region.
