Tirupur district collector Dr Manish Narnaware (IAS) has issued an order directing all play schools in the district to remain non-operational until the conclusion of the summer season. This decision comes in response to the prevailing extreme heat conditions that pose health risks to young children.
Review Meeting Highlights
The announcement was made during a review meeting held at the district collectorate on Tuesday. Officials gathered to discuss precautionary measures aimed at mitigating the impacts of heat and heatwave conditions. The collector stressed the importance of maintaining adequate hydration by drinking sufficient water and carrying water while traveling. Residents were advised to consume ORS, lemon juice, tender coconut water, buttermilk, and fruit juices to prevent dehydration.
Recommended Precautions
Wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothes and consuming seasonal fruits, vegetables, and home-cooked food are also recommended. Residents have been urged to remain indoors as much as possible and to use umbrellas when stepping out during peak afternoon hours. Children should never be left unattended in parked vehicles, and their hydration levels must be monitored closely.
Special Care for Vulnerable Groups
For elderly individuals living alone, health checks should be conducted twice daily, and access to a phone should be ensured. In case of heat stress, cooling measures such as using wet clothes and providing cold baths were advised. Special care instructions were also issued for livestock and pets, including providing shade, water, and proper shelter.
Fire Hazard Warning
The collector warned of fire hazards due to extreme heat affecting electrical wiring and advised residents to safeguard valuables and important documents.
Meeting Attendees
The meeting was attended by the district collector's personal assistant (general) T S Duraimurugan, the dean of the Government Medical College Hospital Dr Manonmani, district health officer Dr Jayanthi, and other departmental officials.
