Varanasi has secured a notable position among Uttar Pradesh's districts, clinching the third spot in the state's official health ranking dashboard for the month of October. The historic city achieved a score of 71%, demonstrating significant progress in public health service delivery.
UP Health Rankings: The Top Performers
The health ranking dashboard, released in November, revealed the standings of all districts. Prayagraj led the chart with a score of 73%, closely followed by Pilibhit in second place with 72%. Varanasi's third-place finish with 71% is particularly commendable when compared to the state's overall achievement of 60% for October, as highlighted by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Sandeep Chaudhary.
Key Indicators Driving Varanasi's Success
Dr. Chaudhary explained that the monthly dashboard evaluates performance across 16 critical health indicators. Varanasi showed better performance in areas including:
- Cesarean delivery rates
- Regular and complete immunisation
- Permanent family planning methods
- Antenatal check-ups during pregnancy (haemoglobin)
- Home-based newborn care
- TB notification
- HIV testing during pregnancy
The CMO attributed this success to the quality medical and health services for maternal-child health and family welfare programmes being provided across all government hospitals, community and primary health centres, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Health and Wellness Centres), and health sub-centres in the district.
Team Effort and Block-Level Rankings
This achievement was made possible by a dedicated team working under the collaborative supervision of Deputy Chief Medical Officer (RCH) Dr. H.C. Maurya and District Programme Manager (DPM) Santosh Kumar Singh of the National Health Mission.
At the block level, the monthly dashboard also recognised top-performing centres. Araji Line Community Health Centre (CHC) secured the first position. The rankings were as follows:

- Misirpur (Kashi Vidyapeeth) CHC
- Sevapuri Primary Health Centre (PHC)
- Badagaon PHC
- Cholapur CHC
- Pindra PHC
- Harhua PHC
- Chiraigaon PHC
- Urban Unit
