CADRRE Hosts Major Autism Awareness Celebration in Thiruvananthapuram
The Centre for Autism and other Disabilities Rehabilitation Research and Education (CADRRE), a prominent not-for-profit organization, is spearheading a significant two-day autism awareness celebration this weekend. The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday at the popular Lulu Mall in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, aiming to foster understanding and support for individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
Inaugural Ceremony and Prestigious Awards
The formal proceedings will commence at 5 PM on Saturday with a poignant ceremony. A distinguished 'Lifetime Contribution to Autism' award will be presented posthumously to Ashok Mysore Visweswariah. He was the esteemed founder and head of the Centre for Advanced Research and Excellence in Autism and Developmental Disorders (CARE-ADD) at St John's National Academy of Health Sciences in Bangalore. The award will be accepted by Dr. Vijaya Raman from the chief guest, K. M. Chandrasekhar, the former Cabinet Secretary of India, highlighting the national importance of this recognition.
International Film Festival and Jury Announcements
Following this, the event will feature the announcement of awards for the CADRRE International Filmlet Festival on Autism 2026. The jury, comprising notable figures such as filmmakers Bina Paul and Venu, Swarup B. R. of Stark Communications, and V. R. Ferose—renowned for leading SAP's Autism at Work initiative—will reveal the winners. The guest of honour, playback singer G. Venugopal, will present these awards, adding a cultural dimension to the celebration.
Public Exhibitions and Entrepreneurial Showcase
An exhibition by autistic entrepreneurs will be a central attraction, open to the public from 10 AM to 10 PM on both days. This showcase provides a platform for individuals with autism to display their talents and products, promoting inclusivity and economic empowerment within the community.
Educational Discussions and Artistic Performances
A panel discussion titled "Across the Ages: From Diagnosis to Strength-Based Support" is scheduled for 4 PM on Saturday. It will be led by Smrithy Rajesh, a psychologist, special educator, and autism mother, offering insights into lifelong support strategies. On Sunday, at 4:30 PM, the event will conclude with performances by autistic artists, celebrating their creative abilities and providing entertainment for attendees.
