Uttarakhand Chief Minister Emphasizes Spiritual Legacy at International Yoga Festival

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made a significant visit to the ongoing International Yoga Festival (IYF) at Parmarth Niketan in Rishikesh on Friday. The event, held on the sacred banks of the Ganga river, saw Dhami joining spiritual leaders and participants from across the globe for a traditional yagna ceremony and the evening Ganga aarti.

Global Gathering for Spiritual Unity

The festival attracted over 1,500 participants from nearly 80 countries, creating a vibrant atmosphere of cultural exchange and spiritual practice. The week-long program features a diverse schedule including yoga sessions, meditation practices, philosophical discussions, and cultural performances, all aimed at fostering global harmony and personal awakening.

During the evening ceremony, the Ganga aarti commenced with devotional chants led by young scholars from Parmarth Niketan, filling the riverbank with sacred music and prayer. Swami Chidanand Saraswati, the head of the ashram, initiated the proceedings by chanting the auspicious mantra, "Mangalam Bhagwan Vishnuh."

Government Initiatives for Yoga Promotion

Addressing the international gathering, Chief Minister Dhami highlighted Uttarakhand's profound spiritual heritage and its global recognition as the birthplace of yoga and meditation. "Uttarakhand is not only Devbhoomi but also the birthplace of yoga and meditation. From here, the energy of life and spiritual consciousness spreads across the world," Dhami stated.

The Chief Minister outlined several government initiatives to promote yoga and spiritual tourism in the state. These include the implementation of a comprehensive yoga policy and ambitious plans to establish five new yoga dhams along with Ayush and yoga wellness centers across Uttarakhand.

Spiritual Leaders Emphasize Deeper Meaning

Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati, the festival director of IYF, emphasized that the event transcends mere physical practice. "We are here not just to practise yoga on the mat, but to connect with our highest truth and the freedom that yoga offers," she explained. She further elaborated on the significance of the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra dedicated to Lord Shiva, noting that true spiritual growth emerges from inner maturity and awakening rather than rejection of worldly existence.

Swami Chidanand Saraswati reinforced the festival's theme of global unity, leading participants in a group photograph where they chanted "Om" together while holding flags representing their respective countries.

International Perspectives on Harmony

Simon Sevan Schafer, an official from the Swiss embassy, praised the festival for its powerful message of global harmony. "If we want peace in the world, it must begin with ourselves, our families and our communities," Schafer remarked. He added that the welcoming spirit demonstrated at the festival reflects India's deep cultural ethos and its role as a beacon of spiritual wisdom.

Cultural Celebration Concludes Evening

The spiritual gathering culminated with a captivating musical performance by renowned singer Kailash Kher and his Kailasa band. Their devotional music blended seamlessly with the serene ambience of the riverbank, creating a memorable conclusion to an evening dedicated to spiritual connection and cultural celebration.

The International Yoga Festival continues to serve as a significant platform for promoting yoga's holistic benefits while strengthening Uttarakhand's position as a global destination for spiritual tourism and wellness practices.
