Art Galleries Illuminate Indian Cities with Diverse Exhibitions
The Indian art scene is currently buzzing with multiple exhibitions across major cities, offering art enthusiasts a rich cultural experience this season. From sculptural masterpieces to feminist art narratives, these shows present diverse artistic expressions that captivate viewers.
Sculptural Brilliance at Kalakriti Art Gallery
Hyderabad's Kalakriti Art Gallery is celebrating a significant milestone with its special exhibition titled Sculpting with Light & Darkness. This group show marks the gallery's 23-year journey and represents its longest-running showcase to date. Curated by the renowned Ina Puri, the exhibition highlights the sculptural practices of three distinguished artists: L.N. Tallur, Sumakshi Singh, and K.S. Radhakrishnan.
Visitors can explore recent works by these artists that span diverse materials, techniques, and conceptual approaches. Each artist uniquely examines how light and darkness interact with three-dimensional forms, creating captivating visual experiences. The exhibition runs from 8 November to 31 December, with viewing hours from 11am to 7pm daily.
Feminist Art and Craft at Tarq Mumbai
Mumbai's art enthusiasts have a compelling reason to visit Tarq gallery, which is currently presenting Vazan, a new show by artist Natasha Preenja, who also goes by the moniker Princess Pea. This exhibition spans multiple media including painting and sculpture, examining artistic forms through the dual lens of craft and feminism.
The show presents a deeply personal narrative that reflects on what Preenja describes as the unseen labour that shapes women's lives. A significant aspect of this exhibition is its collaborative nature, featuring works created in partnership with women craftspersons from Etikoppaka in Andhra Pradesh.
Notable pieces include Hymns for Mothers, where Preenja pushes traditional toy forms to evoke domestic life rhythms, and the marble sculpture series Mothers, Bodies of Stone, marking an important moment in her artistic practice. The exhibition continues until 24 December, open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 6:30pm.
Exploring Memory and Color in New Delhi
New Delhi's Gallery Pristine Contemporary presents What Memory Built in Colour, featuring works by two international artists: Dasha Buben from Belarus and Thilini Jinadasa from Sri Lanka. This exhibition explores the interconnectedness of memory, emotion, and color through distinct artistic approaches.
Buben examines the fluid nature of memory in her works, while Jinadasa explores the tension between chaos and control through abstract compositions. The exhibition runs from 8 November to 24 December at Saini Bhavan on Bhishma Pitamah Marg, with viewing hours from 11am to 6pm, closed on Sundays.
