The city of Bhopal is set to burst into brilliant sunshine hues today as it celebrates Saraswati Puja, a festival dedicated to wisdom, music, learning, and the arrival of spring. Known also as Basant Panchami, this vibrant occasion transforms streets, courtyards, and mandaps across the city into a tapestry woven with yellow marigolds, turmeric-infused sweets, and the joyful promise of fresh beginnings.

At the Bengali Association in TT Nagar, a grand bhog is planned for over 1000 revellers. The general secretary explains, "We have events starting from 10 am, with anjuli at 11 am followed by hather khodi—a cherished ritual where toddlers trace blessings with their palms, accompanied by traditional maer gaan."
Special Resonance with Subhash Chandra Bose's Anniversary
This year's Saraswati Puja holds special significance as it coincides with the 130th birth anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose. In honor of his legacy, the community is hosting a blood donation camp, inspired by Bose Babu's immortal call: "Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azadi doonga." This initiative adds a layer of social responsibility to the festive spirit, reflecting Bose's enduring impact.
Community Feasts and Cultural Events Across Bhopal
At BHEL Kalibari, Dilip Halder shares that skilled artisans have meticulously sculpted the deity for the puja. His team is prepared to serve traditional prasad including phol prasad, khichuri, gheton, and payesh to more than 700 devotees. Additionally, health camps are being organized to ensure that Maa's blessings multiply for all attendees.
Over at Kali Bari Kolar, founder Niloy Das highlights a rich cultural lineup featuring bhajans, traditional geet, and a delicious bhog for 600 people. He notes that these events serve as a joyful bridge, bringing diverse communities together in celebration.
Meanwhile, at the 10 number market, Shubhashish Banerjee, President of Arera Bangiya Parishad, is overseeing puja arrangements and bhog for 200 devotees, ensuring that the festivities reach every corner of the city.
