Buxar's Makar Sankranti Celebration Lights Up Sipahi Ghat

Buxar district witnessed a joyous celebration of Makar Sankranti on Wednesday. The district art and culture department organized a grand event at the historic Sipahi Ghat. Festive fervour filled the air as residents gathered for traditional kite flying and cultural performances.

Kite Flying Competition Steals the Show

The kite-flying competition became the highlight of the day. District Development Council member Niharika Chhavi playfully cut the kite string of District Magistrate Sahila. This playful act drew loud applause and cheers from the enthusiastic crowd.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Avinash Kumar also joined the contest. His kite remained airborne for an extended period, adding to the excitement. Officials, staff members, and children participated with great enthusiasm. Their collective energy made the event both lively and memorable.

Children displayed particular zeal during the festivities. Their laughter and excitement added a special charm to the celebration along the Ganga banks.

Multiple Activities Enrich the Celebration

Tug-of-war and handball matches further energized the celebrations. These diverse events brought colour and dynamic energy to the riverside gathering.

Cultural Programmes and Special Attractions

District Magistrate Sahila inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Senior officials including DDC Niharika Chhavi, SDM Avinash Kumar, and Additional District Magistrate attended the event.

Girl students opened the cultural segment with a welcome song. Students from various educational institutions then presented impressive cultural performances. Their talents received warm appreciation from the audience.

A handicraft stall showcasing bamboo products attracted significant visitor attention. Inmates of the Central Jail created these products. Food stalls operated by Jeevika women's self-help groups witnessed heavy footfall throughout the day.

Officials Highlight Cultural Significance

District Magistrate Sahila addressed the gathering during the event. She emphasized that Makar Sankranti holds special significance in cultural and social life. The festival symbolizes harmony, unity, and collective celebration according to her remarks.

She specifically praised the talent and hard work demonstrated by the district's youth. Their enthusiastic participation made the celebration particularly successful.
