Historic Dang Darbar Returns to Ahwa with Grand Celebrations from February 26 to March 3

The historic Dang Darbar, one of the oldest traditional events in the region, is set to be celebrated with grandeur once again in Ahwa from February 26 to March 3, 2024. Established in 1842, this annual festival holds deep cultural significance and continues to be a major attraction for locals and visitors alike.

Royal Processions and Government Felicitations

After Independence, the organization of Dang Darbar was taken over by the government, and it is held annually before Holi. The celebrations will commence with a ceremonial procession of the kings and their associates, which will set out from the District Seva Sadan in Ahwa ahead of the formal inauguration. At the main venue, members of the erstwhile royalty will be presented with annuities by the government.

This year, in a special highlight, the erstwhile royalty will be felicitated twice. The first felicitation will occur on February 26, followed by a second honor on March 2 in the presence of Governor Acharya Devvrat. The governor's visit to Ahwa on March 2 will see members of the royal families once again honored with political pensions at Rang Upvan.

Cultural Extravaganza and Traditional Performances

The celebrations will open with a colourful inaugural ceremony featuring music, songs, and dance performances. During the royal procession, visitors will be treated to a spectacular display of traditional dances, including:

  • The world-famous Dangi dance
  • Pawari dance
  • Madal performances
  • Bhavada dance
  • Other renowned folk dances from various regions

Cultural programmes will be organised every evening at Rang Upvan throughout the fair. The five-day cultural evenings will feature prominent artists from Gujarat performing daily, along with local artists from Dang district and invited performers presenting music, dance, and cultural acts each evening.

Comprehensive Arrangements for a Memorable Experience

The district administration has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure the event is accessible and people-friendly. These include:

  1. Police security measures
  2. Cleanliness drives and public toilet facilities
  3. Drinking water provisions
  4. Traffic management systems
  5. Stalls for indigenous products and tribal food
  6. Exhibitions showcasing local culture
  7. Health camps for attendees

Approximately 1,000 temporary roadside stalls will be set up, with amusement rides installed at nearby locations to enhance the festive atmosphere. These arrangements aim to create a welcoming environment for all visitors while preserving the traditional essence of this historic event.

The Dang Darbar continues to serve as a vital platform for celebrating regional heritage, bringing together communities through its rich tapestry of cultural expressions and royal traditions that have been maintained for over 180 years.
