In a landmark event for cultural preservation, the Barak Valley region of Assam witnessed the inaugural launch of a Manipuri-language calendar this past Sunday. This pioneering initiative, a first of its kind for the area, represents a significant milestone in the Meitei community's ongoing efforts to safeguard and promote its rich linguistic and cultural identity.
A Community Celebration in Lakhipur
The formal unveiling ceremony was organized by the Lakhipur district committee of the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad. The event took place at a Manipuri guesthouse located in Konjeng Leikai, Lakhipur, drawing community members together for a historic occasion. This calendar is uniquely designed for the residents of Lakhipur, making it a deeply local and personalized artifact.
Honoring Icons and Distribution
The calendar itself is a tribute to the community's esteemed figures. It features photographs of 12 distinguished personalities from the Manipuri community, celebrating their contributions and legacy. In its first phase, the organizers have printed 450 copies of the calendar, which are slated for distribution among the local population in Lakhipur.

Members of the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad have hailed the launch as a historic step. An official from the Parishad emphasized the calendar's profound symbolism, stating, "This is the first Manipuri-language calendar dedicated to Lakhipur, and it symbolizes our collective pride in our heritage."
