Patna: Two teenage brothers died on the spot and a third succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur, following a road accident near Yogwana turn under Bathnaha police station area of Sitamarhi district on Sunday.
Accident Details
According to police, the three youths were riding a motorcycle and returning after purchasing fuel from a nearby fuel pump when their bike collided with a vehicle near Yogwana turn. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving the motorcycle badly damaged and throwing all three riders onto the road.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Shivam Kumar (16) and Alok Kumar (18), both sons of Suresh Bhagat and residents of Matiyar Kala village under Shahiyara police station area. The injured youth, Manjeet Kumar (17), was rushed to Sitamarhi Sadar Hospital. Doctors provided primary treatment to Manjeet before referring him to SKMCH in Muzaffarpur. He, however, passed away there.
Police Investigation
After receiving information about the accident, Bathnaha police reached the spot and sent the bodies to a government hospital for postmortem. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Sadar (Sitamarhi) Deputy Superintendent of Police II, Ashish Anand, said the vehicle involved in the accident has been seized and further legal action is underway.
Station House Officer (SHO) Rupesh Kumar told the Times of India that the van overturned in a roadside ditch after the collision with the bike. “The driver, however, managed to escape after the accident. Police seized both the vehicles and investigation is underway,” he said.
Legal Action
Police have registered a case and are searching for the driver who fled the scene. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
