INTACH Heritage Walk in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Highlights Dr. Ambedkar's Legacy
A heritage trail organized by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) in collaboration with Milind College provided a deep dive into the life and work of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The event, which drew a large crowd including residents and elected representatives, focused on Ambedkar's contributions, particularly the establishment of the People's Education Society (PES).
Commemorative Start at Milind College
The heritage walk commenced at the Milind College campus, where participants paid floral tributes to a statue of Ambedkar located in Lumbini van. This was followed by an informative session detailing the various components of Milind College and the People's Education Society, offering attendees a comprehensive understanding of their historical significance.
Exhibition of Rare Artifacts and Photographs
During the walk, a special display featured different items used by Ambedkar, rare photographs, and important books with his annotations. These artifacts provided a tangible connection to his life and work, enriching the experience for all participants and highlighting his enduring impact on education and social justice.
Founding of the People's Education Society
INTACH co-convener advocate Swapnil Joshi emphasized the historical importance of the PES, founded in 1945 by Ambedkar in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The primary objective was to provide high-quality higher education to underprivileged and marginalized sections of society. This educational hub, also known as Nagsenvana, is situated near Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, serving as a testament to his vision for equitable access to education.
The heritage trail not only celebrated Ambedkar's legacy but also fostered community engagement, making it a significant event for preserving cultural heritage in the region.
