Jamshedpur Hosts Grand Procession for Hindu New Year Celebration
The city of Jamshedpur witnessed a magnificent and colorful procession on Wednesday, heralding the commencement of the Hindu New Year, Vikram Samvat 2083. This grand event, jointly organized by the Hindu Utsav Samiti and Nav Varsh Yatra Samiti, commenced from the Transport Nagar ground in Dimna and culminated at Subhas Maidan, also known as Aam Bagan, in Sakchi.
Route and Cultural Highlights of the Shobha Yatra
The procession journeyed through key arterial roads, including Mango-Dimna Road, Mango Bus Stand Chowk, Maharana Pratap Chowk, and Bengal Club Road, before converging at its final destination. The Shobha Yatra served as a vibrant showcase of cultural diversity and Hindu mythology, with imposing tableaus and cultural groups providing an enriching depiction of Sanatana Dharma.
Amidst the resonant beats of traditional drums and musical instruments, the atmosphere was electrified by high-decibel chants of Bharat Mata ki Jai, Jai Shri Ram, Jai Bajrang, and Bajrang Bali ki Jai. Devotional songs and bhajans played at welcome gates further imbued the environment with a profound sense of religiosity and devotion.
Key Attractions and Participant Enthusiasm
Among the standout features were an 11-foot-high idol of Lord Rama and a nine-foot-high idol of Lord Hanuman, which drew significant crowd attention. Additionally, tableaus depicting Shiva Pariwar and Ram Darbar added to the visual splendor. The Aghori Nritya performance by a cultural troupe emerged as a major highlight, with artists executing the dance to the rhythmic drumbeats provided by a trained band party from Ramgarh.
The procession was led from the front by a group of 1,000 women adorned in traditional saffron sarees, accompanied by numerous youths wearing saffron kurta pyjamas, turbans, and angavastrams, all harmonizing with the festive mood. Hundreds of enthusiasts joined in, waving saffron flags of various sizes and participating on bikes and in cars, showcasing widespread community involvement.
Hospitality and Security Measures
Along the route, welcome points offered refreshments such as plain water, lemon water, jaggery, sprouted gram, tea, biscuits, coffee, and sharbat to the procession attendees, ensuring their comfort and hydration. Upon reaching Subhas Maidan, mass prayers were conducted, and a Mahaarti was performed for a large-sized cutout of Bharat Mata by priests, followed by cultural events.
To maintain order and safety, heavy security was deployed throughout the procession route, effectively preventing any law-and-order issues and allowing the celebration to proceed peacefully and joyfully.
