Abhishek Banerjee, a prominent leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has urged the Lok Sabha Speaker not to recognise a separate faction of the party. The dissident camp, which claims to have 22 Members of Parliament (MPs), is scheduled to meet the Speaker on Monday to seek recognition as an independent parliamentary bloc.

The move by the dissident group has created a rift within the TMC, with Banerjee firmly opposing any division. He emphasised that the party remains united under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and that any attempt to create a separate faction would undermine the party's integrity.

The dissident MPs have asserted their numerical strength and intend to formally request the Speaker to acknowledge them as a distinct group in the Lok Sabha. This development comes amid ongoing political tensions in West Bengal, where the TMC has been the ruling party.
Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the national general secretary of the TMC, has called upon the Speaker to disregard the dissidents' request, stating that the party's constitution does not permit such factions. He further warned that recognising a separate bloc would set a dangerous precedent for parliamentary democracy.
