Keonjhar: The body of a newborn baby girl was discovered in a women’s toilet of the Anandapur Sub-Divisional Hospital in Keonjhar district on Sunday, sending shockwaves through the community.
Discovery and Immediate Response
According to sources, at 9 am on Sunday, a woman who entered the toilet reportedly found the body. She immediately alerted the hospital authorities. Upon receiving information from officials, Ghasipura police arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
Investigation Underway
Police are investigating the incident after registering an unnatural death case. The baby’s body has been sent for post-mortem. Blood samples and other necessary biological samples were collected in the presence of a magistrate and preserved for DNA testing. Dr. Krishna Chandra Das, Superintendent of the hospital, confirmed that the police had been informed and that CCTV footage was examined as part of the investigation.
According to some attendants of patients in the women's ward, an unidentified woman was seen entering the area around 5:00 AM and leaving hurriedly after a short time. SDPO Kamal Lochan Panda stated that the actual facts of the case would become clear after examination of CCTV footage, DNA analysis, and other forensic reports.
Security Concerns and Demands
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding security lapses and healthcare management at a government hospital. Local residents have demanded an impartial investigation into the matter. They have called for the identification and prosecution of those responsible, as well as tightened hospital security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
