In a beautiful demonstration of communal harmony that has captured hearts across India, officials from the Palliyarakkal Sree Durga Bhagavathi Temple in Kozhikode served traditional south Indian sweet payasam to approximately 2,200 Muslim believers who attended Eidgah prayers at a ground adjacent to the temple in Kinassery on Friday.

Temple authorities began their preparations in the early hours, starting as early as 2am, sacrificing their sleep to ensure the payasam was ready and served promptly to those who had completed their morning Eid prayers. This thoughtful gesture required significant planning and effort, reflecting the deep commitment to fostering community bonds.

"Here, we live as one community and such camaraderie is part of our everyday life," emphasized U Jithesh, an office-bearer of the temple committee. "During the temple's Thalapoli procession, Muslim brethren come forward to offer juice and biscuits to Hindu devotees."

The inter-faith cooperation extends beyond occasional gestures to regular participation in each other's traditions. Muslim residents actively take part in the temple festival by staging traditional Kolkali performances, while numerous families contribute offerings such as oil and provide various forms of support to the temple throughout the year.

Ward councillor Zakir K described the temple's payasam offering as particularly touching and noted that the Eidgah message highlighted the crucial importance of preserving such traditions of communal harmony. He revealed that the temple's annual festival, scheduled to begin on March 23, consistently sees participation from people across all religions.
"This year, I am personally sponsoring one day's food offering during the temple festival," Zakir K shared. "Our village has always lived in harmony, and we intend to keep strengthening these bonds."

Local resident Mehroof Manalody offered poignant insight into the deeper significance of the temple's action. "The payasam served by the temple authorities was not just a sweet pudding but an offering of the love in their hearts," he observed.
