Koda Festival Commences with Grand Flag Hoisting Ceremony at Bhagavathy Amman Temple
In a vibrant display of devotion, thousands of devotees gathered at the renowned Bhagavathy Amman temple in Mondaikad, near Colachel, on Sunday to witness the sacred kodiyettu or flag hoisting ceremony. This significant ritual officially marks the beginning of the temple's 10-day annual Koda festival, a much-anticipated event in the region's cultural calendar.
Dignitaries and Priests Lead the Ceremonial Start
The ceremony was graced by a host of distinguished guests, including Madras High Court Judge L C Victoria Gowri, Kanyakumari District Collector R Alagumeena, Padmanabhapuram Sub-Collector Vinay Kumar Meena, and Kanyakumari Devaswom Executive Officer A Jhansi Rani. The rituals were meticulously led by temple tantri Edakkode Sankaranarayana Iyer, alongside the temple priests, culminating in the hoisting of the temple flag precisely at 8:10 AM.
Anticipation Builds for the Legendary Koda Event
The flag hoisting sets the stage for the festival's highlight, the legendary Koda, scheduled to take place on March 10. This event is expected to draw thousands of devotees, particularly women, from various regions of Tamil Nadu and the southern parts of Kerala, showcasing the deep-rooted cultural and spiritual ties across these areas.
