Bengaluru's Lalbagh Flower Show to Feature Moving Animal Tableaux, Tejaswi Tribute

The horticulture department announced the Republic Day flower show at Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bengaluru. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the event on Wednesday. The show will continue until January 26.

A Tribute to Tejaswi's Legacy

The 13-day exhibition, titled "The Journey of Tejaswi," honors the life, literature, and environmental legacy of polymath author KP Poornachandra Tejaswi. Tejaswi Pratishtana, along with his family and companions, helped curate the show.

A dedicated photo gallery will display 150 bird photographs and 250 entomological specimens. These items reflect Tejaswi's personal interests. His collection of 54 books will also be available for purchase.

Innovative and Eco-Friendly Attractions

This year's show introduces moving animal tableaux. The organizers are steering clear of traditional busts and models. They aim to embrace an environmentally conscious theme that mirrors Tejaswi's ethos.

Wild animal figurines will traverse the garden in eco-vehicles. These vehicles come equipped with sound systems and actions, such as an owl moving its head. The display is designed to be a major attraction for children.

The exhibition will include 400 Naru Beru sculptures by Nandi Hills-based artist Nagaraj. These sculptures are made from fibre and root. Additionally, 35 large wood carvings created from fallen trees within the garden will be on display.

A Horticultural Spectacle

The show will feature around 35 lakh flowers and 9 lakh cut ones. Visitors can expect new and exotic blooms, including Simbidium orchids from Sikkim and Oncidium orchids. Temperate flowers such as azaleas, camellias, and cyclamen will also be showcased.

Over 25 new varieties of calla lilies and chrysanthemums will be presented. A special "wild fruits" section will display 300 varieties of edible and non-edible forest fruits from regions like Kakankote and Mangaluru. This section will include the 1.5-metre-long entada, also known as the giant bean.

Tickets are priced at Rs 80 for adults on regular days and Rs 100 on holidays. Children can enter for Rs 30 on all days. Tickets will be available at Lalbagh counters and online on hasiru.karnataka.gov.in/flowershow starting from January 14.
