Ludhiana to Build Memorial for Poet Sahir Ludhianvi After Government Approval
In a significant development for cultural heritage, the Punjab state government has given the green light for the construction of a memorial, community center, and museum dedicated to the iconic poet and film lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi in his hometown of Ludhiana. This announcement was made by Sharanpal Singh Makkar, Chairman of the Medium Senior Vice Industry (MSVI), during an event organized for destitute elderly individuals on Tuesday.
Project Details and Official Statements
Makkar revealed that after extensive efforts and negotiations, all obstacles related to the project have been successfully cleared. Tenders for the construction will soon be floated, with the facilities planned to be built on Pakhowal Road in Ludhiana. While an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader in the city confirmed that the demand for infrastructure named after the legendary poet has been raised before the Chief Minister, they noted that a final solid response from the state government is still awaited, indicating ongoing discussions.

The event where this announcement was made was inaugurated by Ludhiana Central MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi. Additionally, a free homeopathic medical camp held on the occasion was presided over by Ludhiana Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur, showcasing community engagement. Renowned poets, including Mohammad Ashfaq Jigar, Naeem Chikrajamali Bijnor, Ashok Rahi, Kanika Sahi, and Gurpreet Flora, entertained the audience with their compositions, highlighting the cultural significance of the initiative.

Local poetry lover Narinder Singh expressed strong support for the project, stating that Sahir Ludhianvi, as one of the greatest poets, deserves a major memorial in his home city. He emphasized that a museum and community center would serve as a befitting tribute to his enduring legacy, preserving his contributions to literature and cinema for future generations.
