Madikeri's Historic Town Hall to be Replaced by New Cultural Theatre
In a significant development for Madikeri, the old town hall building located on the premises of the Madikeri City Municipal Council (CMC) office is set to be dismantled. In its place, a modern art and cultural theatre will be constructed, marking a transformative step for the city's infrastructure and cultural landscape.
Groundwork Launched by MLA Manthar Gowda
The groundwork for this ambitious project was officially launched by Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda on Thursday. During the ceremony, Gowda emphasized the importance of quality work, instructing the concerned officers to ensure high standards throughout the construction process. He announced that a substantial budget of Rs 9.5 crore has been allocated for the initial phase of the project.
Addressing Parking Issues in the Central Business District
One of the key features of the new town hall will be a spacious parking lot, designed to alleviate the persistent parking problem in Madikeri's central business district (CBD). Gowda highlighted that this addition is crucial for improving traffic flow and convenience for residents and visitors alike. To fully realize this vision, an additional Rs 7.5 crore is required, and Gowda assured that the government will extend the necessary funds to cover this cost.
Concerns and Recommendations from Local Leaders
The launch event saw participation from several local dignitaries, who raised important points regarding the project:
- BJP MLC Suja Kushalappa stressed the need to maintain cleanliness on the premises during and after construction.
- Former MLA MP Appachu Ranjan urged everyone involved to seek additional grants to ensure the timely and successful completion of the work.
- Former minister MC Nanaiah pointed out a critical challenge facing the Madikeri civic body: an 80% staff shortage. He warned that this deficit could hinder development work if not addressed promptly.
