Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that some opposition partners, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, are confused about the strategy of the INDIA bloc. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Gandhi emphasized the need for clarity and unity among the alliance partners to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2026 general elections.
Gandhi's Remarks on Alliance Partners
Rahul Gandhi stated, "You are confused. Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, and other INDIA bloc partners need to understand the common minimum program. We are all together, but there is a lack of coordination." He added that the Congress party is committed to the alliance and urged partners to work collectively.
Response from Mamata Banerjee
Mamata Banerjee, reacting to Gandhi's comments, said that she is not confused and that her party, the Trinamool Congress, has a clear vision. "We are focused on defeating the BJP. There is no confusion in my mind," she said during a press conference in Kolkata.
Akhilesh Yadav's Stance
Akhilesh Yadav also dismissed Gandhi's assessment, stating that the Samajwadi Party is clear about its role in the alliance. "We are working for the people of Uttar Pradesh and the country. There is no confusion," he said.
INDIA Bloc's Future
The INDIA bloc, formed in 2023, aims to unite opposition parties against the BJP. However, internal disagreements have surfaced over seat-sharing and leadership. Gandhi's remarks come ahead of crucial state elections and the 2026 Lok Sabha polls.
Political Analysts Weigh In
Political analysts believe that the INDIA bloc needs to resolve its differences quickly to present a united front. "The opposition must iron out their issues and focus on a common agenda," said Professor Rajesh Kumar, a political scientist at Delhi University.
