Magh Mela Sees More Men Reunited Than Women at Prayagraj's Lost & Found Camp

The ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj has witnessed a notable trend in family reunions. Data from the lost and found camp reveals that more men than women got separated and later reunited with their families.

Reunion Statistics from January 1 to 12

Between January 1 and 12, the Bhoole Bhatke Shivir camp reunited a total of 368 people. This group included 234 men, 114 women, and 20 children. The number of men reunited was more than double that of women.

Camp organiser Umesh Tiwari shared these details. He noted that most of the men were aged between 40 and 70 years. They typically got separated in the Mela area, especially near Sangam Nose.

Contrast with Previous Years and Camp's Legacy

This year's figures stand in stark contrast to the 2024 Magh Mela. In 2024, the camp reunited a much larger total of 3,534 people.

The Bhoole Bhatke Shivir camp has a rich history. It was set up in 1946 and has been instrumental in reuniting lost individuals with their families. Over the past 80 years, the camp claims to have reunited over 15.38 lakh people.

Demographics and Volunteer Efforts

Umesh Tiwari explained that the majority of the reunited men hailed from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. These men often got separated from their families or groups during the Mela.

A dedicated group of volunteers works round-the-clock at the camp. They serve missing or lost people until they are successfully reunited with their loved ones. This continuous effort ensures that no one remains lost for long.

The camp's role remains crucial during large gatherings like the Magh Mela. It provides a safety net for those who lose their way in the crowded event.
