Thousands Gather for Maha Shivaratri Celebrations Led by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Bengaluru
On the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri, thousands of devotees converged at the Art of Living International Centre on Kanakapura Road in Bengaluru for a night filled with spiritual activities. The event, led by renowned spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, took place on Sunday evening and featured a blend of meditation, music, and traditional rituals.
Spiritual Activities and Global Participation
The celebrations included guided meditations, devotional bhajans, and Vedic ceremonies, with the highlight being the Rudra Puja dedicated to Lord Shiva. Similar pujas were organized at approximately 150 locations across India and abroad, showcasing the widespread observance of this sacred festival.
Addressing the gathered devotees, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar emphasized the significance of Maha Shivaratri. He described it as a time when the mind transcends the material realm and highlighted Shiva as the embodiment of consciousness, devotion, and selfless service. He noted that participating in the festival with faith brings profound fulfilment and joy, referring to Mahakaal as the inner light that illuminates the hearts of yogis.
Unique Attractions and International Devotees
A special feature of the event was the darshan of relics believed to originate from the original Somnath Jyotirlinga. These relics are said to have survived the destruction during the 1026 CE raid by Mahmud of Ghazni, adding a historical and spiritual dimension to the celebrations.
The ashram welcomed visitors from about 50 countries, who joined in chanting Rudram verses, singing, and meditation. Many participants described the atmosphere as both festive and spiritually uplifting, enhancing the communal experience of devotion.
The Maha Shivaratri celebrations at the Art of Living International Centre not only reinforced traditional practices but also fostered a sense of global unity among devotees, marking a memorable night of spiritual enrichment and cultural connection.
