Mahakal Temple Ujjain Halts Online Bhasma Aarti Booking from Dec 25 to Jan 5
Mahakal Temple Ujjain Suspends Online Aarti Booking for Festive Rush

In a significant move to manage the massive festive influx, the revered Mahakaleshwar Temple (Mahakal Temple) in Ujjain has announced a temporary suspension of its online booking system for the sacred Bhasma Aarti. The facility will remain closed for devotees from December 25 until January 5.

Offline Forms Mandatory for Aarti Permission

During this crucial period, pilgrims wishing to witness the spiritually significant Bhasma Aarti will need to obtain permission through a manual, offline process. The temple administration has stated that permission will be granted only by filling out offline forms one day in advance. The final decision on attendance will be based on the number of devotees and the management capacity each day.

Preparations for a Lakhs-Strong Devotee Surge

The decision comes as the temple gears up for an enormous congregation expected during the year-end and New Year period. Ashish Phalwadiya, the Naib Tehsildar and Assistant Administrator of the temple management committee, confirmed that preparations are in full swing to host the anticipated crowd.

He explained the rationale behind the move, citing the estimated arrival of 10 lakh (1 million) devotees between December 25 and January 5. "Considering the large number of devotees expected during this time, the online booking facility for Bhasma Aarti will be blocked," Phalwadiya said.

What This Means for Pilgrims

This temporary shift from digital to manual management underscores the scale of the logistical challenge. Devotees planning their visit during this peak week must now account for the extra step of securing an offline form a day before they wish to attend the Aarti. The system aims to ensure orderly darshan and maintain the sanctity and safety of the rituals amidst the overwhelming turnout.

The Mahakal Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is a focal point of devotion, and the Bhasma Aarti is a unique and deeply revered ceremony. This procedural change highlights the temple committee's proactive steps to manage the festive rush efficiently while accommodating the spiritual aspirations of millions of pilgrims.
